DIPLOMA OF SPECIALIZATION IN ORTHODONTICS AND DENTOFACIAL ORTHOPEDICS

ECTS: 39 ECTS.
DURATION: 2 academic years (975 hours).

OBJECTIVES

The objectives of this theory/hands-on course are:

  • To make up for the deficient education of graduates in Dentistry related to the field of Orthodontics and Orthopedics.
  • To train students how to face with necessary conviction and quality the situations which require the treatments of mild and moderate malocclusions.
  • To train students in working as a part of an interdisciplinary team, carrying out orthodontic and orthopedic treatments.

The special objectives of this University Specialization Degree Program consist of achieving the specific competences related to orthodontic and orthopedic services.

DESCRIPTION

Through this University Specialization Degree Program, the student will obtain the knowledge necessary to carry out the diagnosis of different malocclusions, both in children and adults, and to carry out the treatment of mild and moderate malocclusions and planning of the post-treatment stability as well as the management of patients after the orthodontic treatment. The student will learn to be a part of an interdisciplinary team treating malocclusions, and will be able to diagnose, plan and carry out the orthodontic treatment in periodontal and CMD patients, as well as to carry out the orthodontic part of a treatment combined with orthognathic surgery and/or prosthesis and implants.

LEARNING RESULTS

At the end of this Course, the student will be able to:

  • Carry out the diagnosis and treatment plan in orthodontics in mild and moderate cases.
  • Carry out the orthodontic and orthopedic treatments.
  • Carry out the orthodontic part in an interdisciplinary treatment.

DIPLOMA

The student, after finishing the Program designed by Athenea Dental Institute and validated by San Jorge University, will obtain the following diplomas:

  • University Specialization Degree in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics  with lecturing hours of 39 ECTS, issued by Athenea Dental Institute.
  • Título propio de Diploma de Especialización en Ortodoncia y Ortopedia Dentofacial, with lecturing hours of 39 ECTS, issued by San Jorge University.

Ricketts, Steiner and McNamara Cephalometry.
Mounting in the articulator.
Conversion of cephalometric tracing from MI to CR.
Growth prediction without treatment.
Visual Treatment Objective.

Hands-on: Model study, cephalometry, and treatment plan of different case reports.

Subject 2: TREATMENT IN PERMANENT DENTITION. FIXED APPLIANCES 1

Fixed appliances. Straight Wire Technique.
Direct and indirect bonding.
Treatment on typodont with Straight Wire Technique.
Fabrication of different types of arch wires, adjustment and ligating.
Metallic and elastic ligatures. Elastic chain. Elastic thread.
Splinting ligature. Different types of ligatures.
Case finishing.

Hands-on: Treatment on typodont of Class I, Class II/1, Class II/2 and Class III malocclusions.

Subject 3: EARLY TREATMENT IN MIXED DENTITION. REMOVABLE APPLIANCES 1

Interceptive orthodontics.
Active plates.

Hands-on:
Appliances identification.
Adjustment and activation of removable appliances.
Fabrication of arch wires and retainers.

Subject 4: RETENTION AND STABILITY

Wisdom teeth evaluation.

PRICE (Edition 2019-2021)

2-year course price: 15.990 euros

WAY OF PAYMENT

Matriculation: 1.470 euros The rest will be charged through direct debit in 22 monthly installments of 660 euros each, from September 2019 to June 2021.

ADMISSION

The number of places is limited, and they will be allotted by the first book first given system. The registrations received after the completing the available places will be put on waiting list in case of cancellations. The registration fee of those who don’t achieve a place will be paid back in its totality.

CANCELLATION

If a student doesn’t respect the established installments, his admission will be considered cancelled. If a student pays the total of matriculation fees, but he wants to cancel, the following protocol will be followed:

  • If the cancellation takes place before the beginning of the academic course, the student will have the right to get the refund of the total amount of what he paid except for 350 euros as long as his seat can be replaced by the admission of other student.
  • The student will not have the right to any refund if the cancellation takes place after the beginning of the academic course.

OBSERVATIONS

Theory classes will be held with audiovisual aid. Making photos or total or partial recording of the courses is strictly forbidden.
