DIPLOMA IN EXPERTISE IN LINGUAL ORTHODONTICS

ECTS: 20 ECTS.
MODALITY: Part-time semi-classroom postgraduate course. 9 2-days sessions
HANDS-ON: on typodonts

OBJECTIVES

The objectives of this theory/hands-on course are:

  • To make up for the deficient education of graduates in Dentistry related to the field of Lingual and Esthetic Orthodontics.
  • To train students how to face with necessary conviction and quality the situations which require the malocclusions treatment with lingual appliances.
  • To train students in working as a part of an interdisciplinary team, carrying out lingual orthodontic treatments.

The special objectives of this Program consist in achieving the specific competences related to services and treatment of patients with lingual and esthetic orthodontics.

DIPLOMA

The student, after finishing the course and passing the subjects required by the Program designed by Athenea Dental Institute and validated by San Jorge University, will obtain the following diplomas:

  • Diploma in Expertise in Lingual Orthodontics  with the academic load of 20 ECTS, issued by Athenea Dental Institute
  • Título Propio de Postgrado: Experto Universitario en Ortodoncia Lingual with 20 ECTS, validated by San Jorge University.

The course DIPLOMA IN EXPERTISE IN LINGUAL ORTHODONTICS by ATHENEA DENTAL INSTITUTE, is validated by the

SAN JORGE University from Zaragoza (Spain).  This course consists of 144 hours of in-classroom classes and 356 hours of independent work, giving a total of 500 hours. The student will obtain 20 ECTS credits.

Subject 1: Introduction to lingual technique (2 ECTS)

Program:
Introduction to lingual orthodontics
Clinical diagnosis.
Radiographic diagnosis.
Selection of a patient.
Special instruments for lingual orthodontics.
Evolution of lingual brackets.
Preparation of a patient before lingual orthodontic treatment.

Subject 2: Biomechanics 1 (7 ECTS)

Program:
Conventional and digital impressions.
Records for mounting in the articulator.
Laboratory systems.
Lingual orthodontics brackets.
Mounting in the articulator.
Articulator programming.
Model analysis in the articulator.
How to prepare of set-up models.
Explication of CLASS system.
Occlusogram.
Occlusal VTO.
Ideal correction of set-up models.
How to check the functional occlusion in the articulator.
Fabrication of the ideal lingual arch wire template.
Fabrication of the full-size ideal lingual arch wire.
Insertion of the brackets into the ideal arch wire.
Brackets bonding on the model. Fabrication of the customized base.
Correction of ideal and therapeutic set-up models.
Fabrication of models with diagnostic wax in preprosthetic cases.
Individual transfer trays. Different types of transfer trays.
Brackets positioning on the model with customized prescription and without set-up models.

Indications and limitations.
Biomechanical sequence of arch wires.
Non-extraction treatments with stripping and distalization.
Distalization appliances.
Stripping instruments.

CLO3: Custom-made Lingual Orthodontics in 3 steps:
Indications and limitations.
Lingual brackets for alignment.
Indirect bicuspid-to-bicuspid bonding.
Indirect re-bonding.
Alignment arch wires.
Impressions with lingual brackets.
Finishing adjustments.
Fixed retention.

Hands-on:
Fabrication, adjustment and activation of arch wires used in extraction cases.
Activation of expansion and separation appliances.
Fabrication, adjustment and activation of arch wires used in cases treated with protrusion and expansion.
Activation of distalization appliances.
Fabrication, adjustment and activation of arch wires used in cases treated with distalization.
Direct bonding of brackets.
Fabrication, adjustment and activation of arch wires used in cases treated with CLO3.

If a student pays the whole year fee in a single payment, a 5% of discount will be applied.

ADMISSION

The number of places is limited, and they will be allotted by the first book first given system. The registrations received after the completing the available places will be put on waiting list in case of cancellations. The registration fee of those who don’t achieve a place will be paid back in its totality.

CANCELLATION

If a student doesn’t respect the established installments, his admission will be considered cancelled. If a student pays the total of matriculation fees, but he wants to cancel, the following protocol will be followed:

  • If the cancellation takes place before the beginning of the academic course, the student will have the right to get the refund of the total amount of what he paid except for 350 euros as long as his seat can be refilled by the admission of other student.
  • The student will not have the right to any refund if the cancellation takes place after the beginning of the academic course.

OBSERVATIONS

Theory classes will be held with audiovisual aid. Making photos or total or partial recording of the courses is strictly forbidden.
